Oh how I pray.....
That this works! Thanks to the "Bring Back Original Carnation Instant Breakfast bars" facebook page, I found a recipe without those dreaded rice crispies included
By facebook user Amy H.
I have no idea where I will find brown rice protein powder. But I do have that awesome internet thing at my disposal.

I have no idea where I will find brown rice protein powder. But I do have that awesome internet thing at my disposal.
2 cups steel cut oats
1 cup cocktail peanuts
1/4 cup brown rice protein powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 cup all purpose flour (maybe 3/4 cup, don't remember if I added an extra 1/4 or not)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup jif peanut butter
1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Combine oats, peanuts, and protein powder in a blender or food
processor and process until it looks like very coarse crumbs. Pour into
mixing bowl and add the salt, flour and brown sugar and butter and stir
with a fork until combined. Cut in the peanut butter with a pastry
blender, or mix it all up with your fingers. Mix in the condensed milk.
Press into a greased 13 x 9 baking pan and bake at 350 for 15 to 20
minutes, until the center is firm and the edges are turning golden.
Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top, spreading as
they melt. Cool, cut into 16 bars. I think there are around 280
calories per bar (33 carbs, 14 g fat, 9 g protein) if I calculated
right. Not exactly a health food, but close enough to the original in
taste and texture that it satisfied the craving (they're kind of crumbly
and don't hold together that well so I'll work on tweaking the recipe).
I haven't tried the no-bake version with rice krispies so I couldn't
tell you how this compares, but I thought it was a pretty darn good
facsimile. Enjoy, if you try it, let me know what you think.
I so hope this tastes like the ones I loved so much back then

The Things they say
So little man has coughed all night long. When I wake him up for Kindergarten this morning, I decide to make, instead of the routine chocolate milk, some hot herbal tea for his throat. I pour in the boiling water, several ice cubes and then a bit more hot water to warm it up. I decide it is warm enough to help, but not boiling hot enough to burn him and be scared of herbal tea for the rest of his life. And he said "Because I'm only 5, it's a little bit hot for me"

Since it is still July
Weeks and weeks ago I was looking for July clip art to use for the singing time blogs and I found this:!!!!!!!
Just couldn't let that one go. Soooooooooo funny (especially to me, since when I speak in Spanish I am quite often told that I have a "Mexican" accent)

Book of Mormon Stories activity sheets by Jessica Christiansen giveaway from Little LDS ideas
yes, I am blogging about a giveaway -- again.
I know I haven't done it on this particular blog and haven't done it in a while (since I was pregnant with Shannon), but it can be boring.
But this is so super cute I can't resist
See ----- !!!
I wonder If I would get in trouble for blowing up that image and keeping it in my church files. Isn't that the most adorable rebus you've ever seen? I LOVE rebuses so much! I remember getting so excited to find one in the Friend as a child (which was a very long time ago - but you know what - the friend is even older than me[but by only about 2 years])

My Word for the Year
I know this is super late - but about two months ago, buzz started surfacing about picking one word for the whole year. So I picked a word:
Because I can get depressed - quickly - and I sink to a depth that is difficult to pull myself out of. So this word was my word to remind myself that I have a lot to be thankful for and should not let myself drown in self pity.
And then, I am sure I forgot. But today while looking at preschool blogs, I found the one word goal again.
And thus my resolution has been revived!

Keep your shoes on
(clip art from bestclipartblog.com) So, this morning there was a tornado warning. It has passed and most of the danger is behind us - at least where we sit here in West Georgia.
That is not the case for some other parts northeast of us. So I am still watching the news broadcast, which is warning those in the area of the storm to be careful, not go out, get to an interior place in your home, don't go out and get your kids from school since you'll put yourself at risk.... la, la, la
I know this, and most people do. I EVEN HAVE A 48 HOUR KIT WAITING FOR ME IN A CLOSET! (put one together for the FIRST TIME in the summer). But I heard one thing that I had never, ever thought of from the television:
"If you are at home and are in an interior room MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR SHOES ON."
Even though I actually have shoes on right now, I am a barefoot kind of gal. I would have never really considered this - what is even more important - my little offspring run around shoeless constantly. We are a "Put your shoes on in the car" kind of family.
So when you hear those sirens - Put your shoes on - and then throw some shoes on your little ones. I know it is common sense, but it's something that at least in my case needed some deliberate thought.
Well, there go the sirens again - I need to go small shoe hunting

Sweet Church Whispers
"Mommy, I LOVE (and at this point, I thought he was going to say 'you', but I was wrong) bread [yes, we had just been served the bread]."
"Oh, I am so glad you love the bread"
" I LOVE Jesus' bread!"
{This is the quote that inspired the actual creation of this new blog - how I love his 4 year old thinking process}
(Image acquired from google - led me to image on ldswhy.com)

Here we go again
I have started this blog for a great reason - My other blog has gotten popular enough that I feel I would just gum it up with personal posts. So HenckelHouse is now officially my "singing time blog" and this is the one that I will post cute pics of the kids and quotes and stuff. And here's an awesome one of Shannon (of COURSE) to start it all off.
