Oh how I pray.....

That this works! Thanks to the "Bring Back Original Carnation Instant Breakfast bars" facebook page, I found a recipe without those dreaded rice crispies included
By facebook user Amy H.

I have no idea where I will find brown rice protein powder. But I do have that awesome internet thing at my disposal.

2 cups steel cut oats
1 cup cocktail peanuts
1/4 cup brown rice protein powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 cup all purpose flour (maybe 3/4 cup, don't remember if I added an extra 1/4 or not)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup jif peanut butter
1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Combine oats, peanuts, and protein powder in a blender or food processor and process until it looks like very coarse crumbs. Pour into mixing bowl and add the salt, flour and brown sugar and butter and stir with a fork until combined. Cut in the peanut butter with a pastry blender, or mix it all up with your fingers. Mix in the condensed milk. Press into a greased 13 x 9 baking pan and bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes, until the center is firm and the edges are turning golden. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top, spreading as they melt. Cool, cut into 16 bars. I think there are around 280 calories per bar (33 carbs, 14 g fat, 9 g protein) if I calculated right. Not exactly a health food, but close enough to the original in taste and texture that it satisfied the craving (they're kind of crumbly and don't hold together that well so I'll work on tweaking the recipe). I haven't tried the no-bake version with rice krispies so I couldn't tell you how this compares, but I thought it was a pretty darn good facsimile. Enjoy, if you try it, let me know what you think.
I so hope this tastes like the ones I loved so much back then
